Since arriving in Easthaven, I have decided to keep a diary of events.
Quick catch-up since nearly freezing to death after leaving Baldur’s Gate and that truly awful scene of constant destruction, this represents entries 0 to 99 for me.
Our encounters so far have, I believe, been unnecessarily difficult and we even nearly lost one of our group along the way. This rime isn’t going away soon and I feel it will be up to us to gain as much capability as possible, as quickly as possible in order to track down and stop this insane entity from continually casting this damned spell.
Since being rescued from an icy death, this group has worked together to at least further the cause for good, despite one of the group not necessarily being of similar ‘persuasion’ to myself and my comrade in light but he has saved the entire group on several occasions with his ability to sneak around and strike when least expected.
We have successfully tracked the Duergar here, located their hideout and (I hope) removed them from our on-going plans. What we do know is that the search for Chardalyn is a lot more serious than thought, and taking into account the size of the items they steal, they are looking for A LOT of this substance. What could their leader need such an amount for? When we defeated the (I hope) four dwarves, we obtained a map and a translation and now we believe we know where all the items they steal are being taken. Question: How are they moving this stuff so quickly? Possibly something to do with the Red Wizard that we failed to talk to due to him being burned at the stake on the day we arrived here.
Gwindor Stormwind – our wild magic mage sorcerer is a jovial fellow and I feel fully meets the requirements of a wild mage, his actions can be life saving and also comedically bizarre. The wild and often chaotic nature of his actions have led him to unnecessary trouble but I feel this is more due to his inexperience using his incarnate capabilities. He is certainly the costliest when it comes to consuming expensive diamonds, that is for sure!

After visiting the delightful ‘Guild’ we found that getting the stolen gold
back (yes – our sorcerer is going through it right now, bless him) is going to
be somewhat more difficult. It seems
that a previous encounter and a ‘good deed’ has not gone unpunished and we will
need to revisit that damnable castle at Caer Dineval once more and this time
demand some serious answers to questions from their ‘speaker’. That, I think will be a trek for another
time. Going forward, we should avoid
that Guild as much as possible. Galen
may be OK there but I am not – and I trust none of them.
We had a weird experience – a séance where a dead lady is still looking for her husband, lost in the lake. Both drowned perhaps? The person holding the séance – Rolnaldo, is focussed on one thing only: getting the treasure that presumably belonged to both of them. I don’t like weasels like that and as ever, they can’t really be trusted. He wants to accompany us but I feel that will be another soul that will require saving from the jaws of death at a moment when we need no distractions (like the inevitable moment that would be hilarious if it were any other adventuring group). I can’t say I enjoyed the séance but something definitely happened and we connected with a spirit – question is: did we just gate her into our realm?
Today we visited the town hall to meet with the captain of the militia as she had an assignment for us. As ever, this was not a nicely straightforward task.
Upon entering one of the rooms we saw a very large Chardalyn statue of, of all things, a Balor – I mean, what would possess someone to create an effigy of a type six demon from beyond the pale? Maybe I just answered my own question? As ever, I digress. Seemingly strapped to this statue was a young woman, dripping wet and sobbing. Clearly, she was not a young woman and although the water dripping from her looked real enough, this was highly suspicious. I decided to remain at the back of the room and see what I could observe. A clerk happened by and when questioned as to what he could see, merely indicated the statue only and nothing was out of the ordinary – indeed he went on to say it was dragged from the lake, was once the front part of a ship and was placed in its present location two months previously as no-one knew what to do with it.
We were facing undead.
Despite my warnings that all was probably not what it seemed – and indeed, this entity’s arrival was probably a result of the séance we all attended, Gwindor once again did a Gwindor and approached the being strapped to the statue. You must understand that his intentions, as ever were honourable but I think had fallen for the state of distress. I had a feeling that upon raising her head a distinctly unpleasant sequence of events would follow. I wasn’t wrong.
Thankfully, Pherios our guide in this region, cast a couple of spells, one being protection. These, I think, saved the day. The moment the entity (the White Lady?) raised her head, we were staring at a vision of horror – so bad that Pherios himself began to flee the scene. The melee that followed was frantic and only just coordinated. Gwindor did manage to manoeuvre himself into a position to unload lightning on the entity, but unfortunately misjudged the capability of the spell and although succeeded in hitting the entity three times, managed to hit himself twice – and, as ever, no prizes for guessing who took the most damage…
Failed attempts by the entity to possess one of us finally made the entity become fully non-corporeal and flee to the ethereal plane – but thankfully the force capabilities of the divine spiritual weapon finally put paid to the creature and the crazy episode of the town hall came to an end.
After our encounter we found Captain Arlaggath who will provide us with items needed in our quest to find the missing fishermen. We’ll take this on after a rest as I am sure there is more to this than people who are simply ‘missing.’ We know there is a hag in the area and I know a little about them after meeting a hag hunting group in Baldur’s Gate. They usually eat you or turn you into some sort of slave (zombie?) either way, if this thing is behind the missing fishermen, it could be using them as (undead?) slaves. My morning prayers will be used to realign my preparations as I think our next encounter will be a lot more difficult that today’s…
Hopefully, Phinaeous, will be joining us in this quest.
