Entry 104 – Easthaven (again)

So, we set out for Easthaven once more.  Please show me the sanity in this endeavour.  The town is now wrecked (apparently because of us), everyone hates us (because we helped them), no one will help us (because now they don’t want our help), and there is little food there (SO WHY ARE WE GOING?).

Gwindor has finally stopped calling this place Eastmarch, so that is a blessing.  We decided to camp near the trail before going into the smoking ruin that seems to be the town before us.  May other people seem to be camping here, and during the night, a child goes missing.  Are there tunnels here used by duergar?  Who knows.

We agreed to assist the family (who seem dodgy, I must say), and we head south in search of the missing little one.  Unfortunately, we are all feeling wimpy and give up, turning instead toward Easthaven.  What heroes we are. Not.

When we arrive at the town, we discover Argolath is now dead.  I asked if she was eaten by hungry townsfolk but the remark seemed to land on deaf ears – there seem to be a lot of them about.  Marrick is here, but the townsfolk hanged the speaker.  Well, he was cretinous anyway, much like the town.

When we find two militiamen who are actually willing to talk to us, they explain that the Duergar are still taking the Chardelain.  What is it with that crystalline stuff?  I asked if they had stolen the huge demon statue too, and the answer was affirmative.

What do they want with all that stuff?  I am sure I have asked that question before.

The militiamen would not leave us to wander the town freely (damn it).  We visited the now boarded-up shop where the shiny one left a deposit for the flail.  I suppose that is a case of hard luck.  How is he supposed to crack open nuts in a shiny way now?  Maybe we will never know.

We visit the town hall, and Galen finds a tunnel.  So….  Is this how the duergar are getting around?  Of course, it is.  They are dwarves, which means digging is their thing.

The group came up with another awesome idea – let’s explore the tunnel. I said no.  They said yes.  I said I am not trying to crawl through a tunnel that is designed for a dwarf, especially as I am wearing armour and I am not taking the armour off.

We allow Galen to investigate, and he says the tunnel goes north towards the docks.

We walk to the docks – revisiting the entombed boat we visited last time.  Galen actually explores the tunnels coming from there and finds that he pops up in the White Lady Inn.  Was Rinaldo an agent for the duergar? For the Hag?  Maybe – perhaps wringing his neck the next time we see him will be a good idea.

We reported this to the locals, who asked us to investigate the area south, where the duergar seem to be taking everything they steal.
